Monique is a widow, recently arrived in the small village of Pont-de-Peyne. In her mid-40’s, with long chestnut hair and an hourglass figure, she’s lusted after by the men of the village as she goes about her daily chores. We’re introduced to Monique in the short story The End of Summer, and initially she reveals little of her background. As the story progresses though, Jacques discovers more than he’d bargained for – a woman who knows what she wants …
